Miss East Africa UK contestant Randa is already a young entrepreneur fund-raising for charities. She would like to set up her own charity

My name is Randa Shebly. I’m 24 years old and originally from Eritrea. Because of the bravery of my mother and father who left a war torn Eritrea and moved to Europe so that me and my siblings could have every opportunity in life, I grew up in Sweden and moved to the United Kingdom to study at university almost 6 years ago.

I feel lucky that I have had great fortune in my life so far and I feel a passion and responsibility to dedicate large parts of my life to giving back, creating good fortune for others who have less resources in East Africa. Ultimately the dream is that future generations of East African children, our children and grand children have the same opportunities and resources that I had, right there in East Africa.

To that end 3 years ago I started in the UK’s largest grassroots fundraising company and spent one year doing the face to face fundraising myself to gain two things; sales experience and  to gain an understanding of the way that the public thinks. After that one year I used that experience to open up my own fundraising company that I have since expanded into 3 cities here in the UK as well as one in Madrid, Spain.

My goal has always been to set up my own charity organisation.

The reason why I am taking part in Miss East Africa UK 2010 is that when my good friend and former contestant Saba Tewelde told me about this contest, I haven’t stopped thinking since that the time to realise my dream and get my own charity started could be sooner than I expected. The exposure, the credibility and the opportunity to benefit from the experience of Miss East Africa UK 2010 I believe can help make my next step possible. What I need from you guys and girls out there is to come on down to Westminster Central Hall on the 3rd July and support me.
