Founded in 2006 by Kenyan born Pauline Long; Miss East Africa UK has campaigned tirelessly  for various East African children’s charities and engaged in fundraising events for these charities.

The title holders have toured the East African orphanages to get an insight of the conditions and standards of living of the orphans. With this, it has created more awareness and publicity for these charities.

Today Miss East Africa UK has become recognized not only in East Africa but also in the UK with invites pouring in for title holders to prestigious events; one of the biggest highlight was when Miss East Africa UK 2007 – Maureen Nyakaira received an invite from Her Majesty The Queen of England to a special dinner in Buckingham Palace and also appeared in BBC Celebrity Scissor Hand. Miss East Africa UK 2006 Brenda Akot toured Kenyan orphanages while Miss East Africa UK 2008/2009 Vicky Ngari was a great ambassador who represented East Africa in high profile events such us Face of Universe in Ghana, Milken Institute Global Conference in USA and being listed in the UK’s black power list of the top 100 black influential young entrepreneurs in the UK.

Contestants of Miss East Africa UK beauty pageant who become part of this good cause are goal- orientated, energetic and ambitious. They end up becoming positive role models and goodwill ambassadors for Africa.  They carry a positive message about Africa that dispels the myth that Africans cannot be successful.

Mr East Africa UK was founded in 2008 with Ugandan Alan Semugabi as the first ever title holder. Both pageants work alongside each other to promote beauty, philanthropy and entrepreneurship

Miss East Africa UK 2007 Maureen Nyakaira

Miss East Africa UK 2007 Maureen Nyakaira made appearance on BBC Celebrity ScissorHand reality TV show to raise money for the charity Children in Need. In 2007 and beginning of 2008  she toured East African children’s charities Rafiki Children’s home in Nakuru and Kisii, Kenya where she delivered goods and money. She did the same for Nyumbani children’s Home in Nairobi Kenya before heading to Tanzania to spend Christmas day with orphans of HIV/AIDS at Forever Angels Baby Home, she delivered goods and money to the babies. Her final visit was to her home country Uganda where she attracted the national press which included radio and TV stations. In Uganda she worked very closely with CORE-Uganda. She delivered much needed mosquito nets to Mulago Hospital in Uganda. While in Uganda she co-hosted Nyakaire concert and fund-raising event for Nyaka school of orphans  before heading back to England where she was invited to the House of Commons by Andrew Mitchell(MP) to discuss the plight of East African orphans. In 2009 Maureen was a finalist at the prestigious Miss Commonwealth.

Vicky Ngari Miss East Africa UK 2008-2009

After winning two titles in one night, Miss East Africa UK 2008-2009 Vicky Ngari went on to win Exquisite Face of the Universe at the Face of Universe world finals in Ghana in 2008. and later in the same year she was appointed Ambassador for Kenya at World Trade Market 2008 in London. One of her biggest achievements was establishing her social enterprise called ‘No Limits’. As well as ambassador for Shout Campaign (Feed The Street Children Programme), Miss Ngari also became the face of Africa Inspired Foundation and is Co-founder of African Youth Council (AYC). She has represented East Africa in various high profile conferences both in the UK and internationally including the famous Milken Institute Global Conference in USA. Recently, she was listed in the UK’s black power list of the top 100 black influential young entrepreneurs in the UK.
